MAGNOLIA, Texas — An 11-year-old student died Tuesday morning after experiencing a medical emergency aboard a Magnolia ISD school bus, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said the incident appears to be related to a previously diagnosed medical condition, and no foul play is suspected.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at approximately 7:38 a.m., reporting an unresponsive student on a school bus that was traveling to school. School nursing staff and personnel from the Precinct 5 Constable’s office arrived immediately and began CPR and other life-saving measures.
Montgomery County Hospital District medics took over treatment when they arrived and transported the student to a local hospital, where the child was later pronounced dead despite extensive efforts by first responders and medical personnel.
Sheriff’s office detectives responded to the hospital to investigate the circumstances of the death. Preliminary findings indicate the student, who attended Magnolia ISD Intermediate School, had a medical emergency linked to a known medical condition.
The sheriff’s office is working with the Montgomery County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the official cause of death. Officials said they will not release the student’s name to protect the family’s privacy.
Precinct 5 Constable Chris Jones, whose office leads the School Resource Officer program for Magnolia ISD, released a statement following the incident.
“We stand in solidarity with the school, faculty, teachers, friends, and the many loved ones of this student. This is an incredibly tough day for our community and the weight of this tragedy is felt by us all,” Jones said.
“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the MCHD medics, hospital staff, MCSO Detectives, and all the first responders we have worked alongside today. Their professionalism and dedication during such a difficult time do not go unnoticed. This is a heartbreaking day, and we lift this child and their family up in our prayers. We ask that the community join us in respecting the family’s privacy as they navigate this unimaginable loss.”
The sheriff’s office also expressed condolences in its statement.
“The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office extends our deepest condolences to the parents, family, friends, and teachers of this student. As parents ourselves, our hearts are heavy with sadness for the family and the entire Magnolia ISD community,” the agency said.
