March – What an amazing month for our club!
First, St Patrick’s Day. Yes, well, what do you do when Murphy’s Law takes over and your bagpiper is stuck in a massive traffic jam on I45? Shenanigans at The Corner Pub began as we waited for Mihir, our young piper, to arrive after his exhausting 3 ½ hour drive. Our Walking Parade wasn’t the same without him leading us, but we enjoyed his music in the pub just the same. Our 5OCP Jamm Band rocked the house before and after his set. We crowned our 2026 Lady of St. Paddy’s Christina Rathbun & did a joyful Second Line for our beloved Bill Rathbun, who passed away March 4th . We felt his presence in the room. Our cart of sock donations for Montgomery County Youth Services was filled to overflowing. Thank you, Corner Club, for hosting the party and Mark Canada for the wonderful photos.
The following weekend we partnered with our friends from The Rotary Club of Lake Conroe to host Bill’s Celebration of Life at the beautiful home of Mike and Carol Berger. There were tears and laughter as we shared memories of Bill with the Rathbun family – he meant so much to both organizations. Godspeed Bill.
On March 24th eleven of our club members served as judges for the annual Dispute Resolution Center’s Bookmark Art Project for Montgomery County students in grades K – 8. This is such a joyous few hours as we narrow hundreds of entries down to just four winners for each grade.
We ended the month at the Alzheimer’s Association’s Corporate Kick Off Luncheon on March 31st for the 2026 Walk to End Alzheimer’s, which will be held on October 17th in Town Green Park in The Woodlands. Our club has walked together since 2021.
There’s much more on tap for this small but mighty little club, which believes in hard work while having a wonderful time together. On Saturday April 18th we will co-host our annual Blood Drive with The Rotary Club of Lake Conroe at Margaritaville Resort on Lake Conroe. The Donor Coach will once again be in front of Landshark Bar and Grill from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. Go to www.committforlife.org and use sponsor code 5PHC to sign up for our drive. Walkins are also welcome. You’ve heard this before, but it is worth repeating. Each blood donation can save up to three lives. Cancer and surgery patients are the #1 users of blood transfusions, but as we approach the end of the school year and increased travel and leisure time, the need for blood donations always rises. Give the gift of life. Landshark will be offering a 20% discount that day for all those who give (or attempt to give) blood. The Blood Center will also be offering free A1c testing and a t-shirt. Nice!
On Thursday April 23rd at 5 p.m. we’ll do what Parrot Heads do like no other – celebrate live music. Our monthly Happy Hour will be held at Debbie Glenn’s newest venture, Lil Roux, in the old 202 Main location, always a favorite venue for us. Chris Holmes and his Bama Breeze Sound Trio will play for us for our “Spirit of 76” Happy Hour, celebrating the best music of 1976, complete with the vibe, decorations and attire of that era – think bell bottom pants, disco balls and oh so much more. There’s no cover, but we’re requesting a minimum $10.00 per person donation to our music fund to help us pay for the band.
