5 O’Clock Phlock: Christmas in July Happy Hour at GuadalaHarry’s Wednesday

As our nation celebrated its 250th birthday, the 5 O’Clock Phlock celebrated poolside with music by the wonderful Robert Greaney. It was a joyous afternoon of food, fun and family.  

This week we keep the good vibes going as we welcome the Trop Rock King of Christmas, John McDonald, and his lovely lady Donna to Conroe, as they make their summer swing through Texas. John will play for our annual Christmas in July Happy Hour at GuadalaHarry’s on Wednesday July 15th from 5-8 p.m. upstairs in the party room. We decorate the room is grand tropical Christmas style, play some crazy games that involve antlers and solo cups and we might even bring out the limbo poles again – it could happen! Our HH’s are open to the public and all are invited. A suggested donation of $10 per person helps us pay John. 

The festive atmosphere lends itself beautifully to our charitable cause for the month – collecting Hawaiian Shirts For Deployed Soldiers. Started in 2017 by one Mom for her son’s deployed unit, the effort has now brought smiles and sunshine to more than 54,000 men and women overseas. Harry has generously given us a drop off space in the restaurant, so search your closet, the sales rack or the resale shops for new or gently used shirts to add to our shipment. 

August will be a month of preparation for us as we gear up for two new events for our club. In September we have a joint venture with two of our Community Partners – The Rotary Club of Lake Conroe and Faith Fighting Cancer – for a Breast Cancer Mini Walk hosted by our friends at Margaritaville Resort Lake Conroe. This FREE event is on the morning of Saturday September 12th in Palm Court, the patio area of the main tower. We will celebrate survivors and remember those we have lost to this cancer that effects 1 in 8 women in their lifetime. Faith Fighting Cancer will be sharing their wealth of knowledge and support for cancer patients and their families. There will be refreshments, music, gifts, and of course, the Mini Walk around the resort, followed by lunch in License To Chill (on your dime) for those who wish to keep the celebration going for a few more hours. Save the date now, bring your pink to the front of the closet and start thinking about your entry for our best dressed/best decorated bra contests! 

All this community service and adventure comes at a cost of course, so we need money! On Saturday, October 3rd we will host our new FUNraiser called “Phlock Around The Dock” a Casino Party with music, yard games, silent auction,  raffle and many surprises at April Sound Country Club in The Lakeside Room.  

Our plan for the event follows our usual path of “serious fun for a serious cause,” as we support our charitable work, everything from our Walk To End ALZ Championship Team to Memory Park, FFC, SPCA-PETS-SNAP, New Danville and more. Join us!
