“The End of Alzheimer’s Starts With Me”
On Saturday, Sept. 20, The 5 O’Clock Phlock Parrot Head Club will put those words into motion as we host our annual FUNraiser to support The Woodland’s Walk To End Alzheimer’s. Our 5OCP Walk Team – and our entire club – will go all-out for the 5th year to have serious fun to fight a serious disease as we Party With A Purpose for Alzheimer’s.
The upstairs party room at GuadalaHarry’s in downtown Conroe will be transformed into an Alzheimer’s Promise Garden, alive with the colors of the ALZ Walk – purple to honor those we have lost to ALZ and other forms of dementia; blue to recognize those living with the disease; yellow to honor caregivers and orange to support the vision of a world without The Long Goodbye. Although the white flower, the color of the first survivor, is not yet in the Promise Garden, we will have lots of white too, as our color of hope. We know now, with certainty in our hearts, that a cure IS on the horizon. Those of us up in years may not see it, but the next generation no doubt will. Life transforming medications to slow the progression of the disease are already on the market, thanks in large part to the work of The ALZ Association. We are so very close, and we can all bring it even closer by our fundraising efforts. An amazing 77% of every dollar donated to The ALZ Association goes directly into research, development, and direct support of patients and their families.
GuadalaHarry’s upstairs stage will become “Radio ALZ”, with Celebrity DJ Mike Fuller of Fuller’s Guitar at the radio mic, along with our 5OCP Jammin’ DJs Richard Beck and Michael McBride. Mike is a talented musician and will make a little music magic for us too. Gary Parker of Quanah Productions will conduct interviews as our guests stroll the purple carpet. GuadalaHarry’s will roll out a bountiful fajita buffet, with Debbie’s famous cheesecake for dessert. Expect some drink specials crafted by Harry’s talented bartenders too. There will be a silent auction, raffles, and a 5OCP “Mini Mart” with handcrafted goods for sale, made by some of our most talented Parrot Heads.
The cost of all of this wonderment for the support of such an important cause? Only $50.00 per person, with $10.00 from each ticket being donated to ALZ. Tickets are available now on our website at www.5oclockphlock.com or by texting me at 713-825-0141. Space is limited and we expect these seats will go quickly so don’t delay.
In other club news, last week our Phlock joined the always generous Dave and Marie Underdown and many of their friends at their lakeside home for our annual “Dog (and Cat) Days of August” House Party. Yes, there was Karaoke, and it was a blast. We raised $2,700 in supplies and cash donations for SPCA-PETS-SNAP of Montgomery County and another $1000.00 for The Lone Palm Foundation. LPF is the charitable arm of Parrot Heads in Paradise, helping Parrot Heads recover from natural disasters, such as the recent July 4th floods in Central Texas. Our thanks to everyone for their generous support! What a wonderful night it was, under the beautiful surgeon moon of August 9th.
