Here’s a look at seven recent updates at health care facilities in the Conroe area, including new buildings, programs and grants awarded by area hospital systems. This information is not comprehensive and was shared by officials from each respective hospital.

1. HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe

The hospital is renovating its cardiac catheterization laboratory, a specialized hospital department where doctors perform minimally invasive tests and procedures to diagnose and treat cardiovascular diseases.

In addition, HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe has a new chief medical officer in Dr. Renee Hebbeler-Clark and a new chief financial officer in AJ Milanak, and the hospital was recertified as a comprehensive stroke center by DNV.

2. Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals Conroe

The hospital hired Umkembia Marsha Gardner as its new director of clinical and nursing services, and added a new focus on expanding neurology support for post-traumatic brain injury patients.

Cornerstone Specialty Hospitals Conroe is also continuing its focus on respiratory care and recovery, including for ventilator and high-flow oxygen patients.

3. Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands

In 2025, Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands became the only hospital in The Woodlands area designated as a Level IV neonatal intensive care unit, increasing access to advanced neonatal services closer to home.

The campus was also recognized for its orthopedics and sports medicine program, with features such as its Motion Analysis and Human Performance Laboratory.

4. Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital

Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital is expanding graduate medical education through its Internal Medicine Residency Program. The hospital’s Transitional Year Residency Program is also expected to begin in July.

The Houston Methodist Breast Care Center at The Woodlands also celebrated a decade of service in February. The health care facility is now recognized as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence.

5. Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center

The Melissa Preston Breast Care Center at Medical Plaza 3 opened this year, as did the hospital’s new Medical Plaza 5, which includes the TIRR Memorial Hermann Outpatient Rehabilitation, previously at Medical Plaza 2.

In addition, a new Amazon Just Walk Out food and beverage retail storefront will open in June.

Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center also renovated the Women’s Services area and the South Tower entrance.

6. St. Luke’s Health-The Woodlands

The Nurse Residency Programs was awarded accreditation with distinction in February, the highest recognition given by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Programs.

The hospital was redesignated as a certified Comprehensive Stroke Center in January. The redesignation means the hospital is equipped to treat the most challenging stroke cases such as brain aneurysms with 24/7 specialized care, advanced imaging and other capabilities.

7. Nexus Neurorecovery Center—Conroe

Nexus Neurorecovery Center in Conroe opened a new 13-bed residential building on its campus in May, which offers private rooms in a structured, home-like setting for patients who require ongoing medical care following severe traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury or stroke.

The center also offers equine-assisted therapy in partnership with Unbridled Hope, using interactions with horses to support emotional regulation, confidence and communication.
