The Mary Vaughan Corner Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, proudly nominated local historian and genealogist Andrew Rapoza for the NSDAR Historic Preservation Recognition Award. A student of Massachusetts history, Mr. Rapoza published Promising Cures: The Pursuit of Health in a 19th Century New England Community: Lynn, Massachusetts in 2022, a four volume study now widely used by researchers exploring early New England medical practices, customs, and beliefs.
After relocating to Montgomery County, Texas, Mr. Rapoza became an active contributor to the Conroe Community Cemetery Restoration Project and the Montgomery County Historical Commission. His detailed research and compelling writing have brought renewed attention to overlooked local landmarks and individuals, including the grave of Conroe founder Isaac Conroe, the former Montgomery County Hospital, the 122 year old Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, and the Conroe Masonic Lodge.
His work has significantly enriched the historical record of Montgomery County, and his thoughtful remarks at historical marker dedications have helped preserve the stories of the county’s early citizens. Mr. Rapoza was honored by the Texas Society during the 127th State Conference on March 13, 2026.
