The Montgomery County Historical Commission held its 13th annual History Road Rally Jan. 31 in downtown Conroe.
The event was hosted by the commission at First Baptist Church. The event honored the memory of Tony Gullo, Sr, whose Ford-Toyota-Mazda auto dealerships have sponsored the event each year and Mr. Gullo supported the Conroe community in a number of ways before his passing.
Twelve teams of “history detectives” had two hours to answer clues of the history of Conroe. Among the 29 historic locations, clues took teams of all ages to the old vacant courthouse jail where they were greeted by Sheriff Wesley Doolittle and former sheriffs Tommy Gage and Joe Corley.
Everyone was a winner!
But the top three trophies went to the Conroe Chamber of Commerce team (1st Place); the Steve and Cindy family (2nd Place) and the Judi Thomas family (3rd Place).
The Montgomery County History Road Rally will return to historic Willis-Danville area next year in late January.
