The Conroe Fire Department used an excavator with the extra care needed to help an equine old-timer rise and shine.
CONROE, Texas — Firefighters in Conroe assisted in the rescue of a horse that had been unable to stand for several hours Monday morning.
According to the Conroe Fire Department, a resident walked into Fire Station 5 on Jan. 26 to report that a 35-year-old horse nearby had been down since approximately 5:30 a.m. and could not get back onto its feet.
Engine 5 crews responded to the scene around 11:30 a.m. and determined additional resources were needed. Firefighters from Ladder 1 were called in to assist, along with a veterinarian and a nurse.
Crews used specialized straps, manpower and an excavator to carefully lift and support the horse. Fire officials said the operation required slow, coordinated movements to avoid injuring the animal.
The horse was successfully returned to its feet without any reported injuries or complications.
Fire officials credited the successful rescue to teamwork between first responders and medical professionals, noting the department responds to a wide range of calls involving both people and animals.
