Our PRIDE continues to grow, and this season’s garden is officially planted. Walking into the Lone Star Convention Center for this week’s meeting, I was immediately greeted by Michelle Greif, who was working check-in for our Winter Blood Drive. Thanks to combined efforts of our Lions volunteers and the dedication of our members, 26 donors gave blood this week, each one helping to save 3-lives. Even a winter storm could not keep Lions from showing up and making a difference.
This week’s meeting was not focused on information or entertainment, but it was one I always look forward to. It was a meeting centered on recognition, connection, and growth. As I entered the room, I felt a strong sense of pride and excitement knowing I was surrounded by like-minded community members who genuinely want to make our community better. After missing the past two meetings, I was especially grateful to be back, reconnecting with friends as I grabbed lunch and found a seat. Conversations flowed easily, filled with updates on both personal and professional milestones, reminding me just how meaningful this organization is.
We were honored to welcome District Governor Mike George, who joined us to share information on the upcoming Mid-Winter Conference and to recognize outstanding service within our club. Life Memberships to Lions Clubs International—an honor reflecting years of dedication—were presented to Lion Tim Cox, President Tracy Irvine, Lion Helen Thornton, and Lion Russell Miller. Each of these Lions has given us countless hours in service, and we thank them for their continued commitment.
Following the awards, Past District Governor Lisa Free-Martin inducted the newest members into our club. During the ceremony, she shared a message that perfectly captured the moment: “Gardening is what we do. Good things grow with time and care. Today we are planting new Lions, and they will grow through service.”
Once the new members were officially inducted and pinned, Lion Robin Sproba brought the room to life by interviewing each new Lion through a fun game of truth or dare. One by one, our new members introduced themselves, sharing who they are and what they do. We learned about favorite foods, heard a few “fish tales” about impressive catches, and even enjoyed a song listing all 50 states in alphabetical order—performed purely by choice. Two members opted for dares, and both handled them with ease and humor.
We proudly welcome our new members to the ‘Greatest Lions Club in the World.’ I hope being part of this PRIDE helps you grow in ways you never imagined. I know it has done that for me, and I am incredibly thankful.
