This week Lions are Roaring LOUD and PROUD. Let’s give a big THANK YOU to those Lions that have been serving the community with this month with so many Vision Screenings. Our meeting this week included tradition, competition, and an informative program.
This week we kicked off our annual Lucky Derby ticket sales. President Tracy purchased ticket #1 from Chairman John Stacy. This tradition dates back as far as I can remember. 28 Lucky ticket holders will get a chance to compete for the grand prize, a new car voucher donated by Gullo Auto Group. Don’t worry the other 27 Lucky ticket holders will still waltz away with amazing prizes as well. If you want to get your hands on one of the limited tickets available for sale, please contact the Lions Club office.
We are in the midst of our annual Lion’s Club Fall Membership Drive. This year we have two teams and it’s a Texas rivalry for sure, Aggies vs Longhorns. Lions Charlie Irvine and Rich Sproba got the crowd cheering loud and proud. In all seriousness, this is a great time to come visit our club and see what all the ‘Roar’ is about. I always like to share that we are a service-based group of like-minded individuals that have a goal to make our community a better place. We have so many different committees and programs that strive to give back and help those around us. If this is something you are looking to do there is no better time than now to come visit us on Wednesday at Noon at the Lonestar Convention Center.
Our program this week was brought to us by Alex Edwards with the United Way 211 program. We all know when to dial 911, 411, or 811. Do you know when to dial 211? I didn’t prior today. Calling 211 provides you with resources to access health and human services. Alex stated that this is the number you call when you don’t know who to call. They have a wide range of resources and services to help you with things like basic needs, mental health and beyond. It’s programs like this that I always find valuable. I may not know what to do for someone but now I know how to connect them with someone who can help them.
As the cooler weather comes in and the holiday season is upon us, I find myself reflecting on how fast this year has gone by and all the memories and friends I have made though Lions Club. I am also looking forward to all the great things to come and things we will be doing in our local community.
