The Casino lights were glowing brightly this Wednesday for the Lucky Derby Car Raffle! Before the 28 finalists have their chance at winning the slots there are some important opportunities to serve coming up. Lions will be helping wrap and prepare goodies for the deserving kids at Reaves Elementary School as we prepare for the Jingle Bell Bash! The kids will receive a visit from Santa & his Lion-elves next Friday, December 19th.
Have you ever been without soap or worse a toothbrush? The club is collecting full-size toiletries by December 12th which will be used for our annual Christmas Baskets. Next Tuesday, December 16th the Lions will be busy having their “boxing” day preparing the food boxes for the Christmas Basket Delivery! *Disclosure: No food is harmed in the making of the boxes* As the year 2025 is coming to an end we will have our final meeting on December 17th where we will celebrate at our Christmas Social! Just make sure not to have too much egg nog so you will be able to help deliver the Christmas Baskets to our deserving individuals.
Committee Chair Lion John Stacy opened the Lucky Derby with a huge thanks to all who were involved! John also introduced the never-before-seen Human Slot Machine and MC for the afternoon, Lion Warner Phelps. To keep Lion Warner in line during the game, Lion Ladoris was there waiting with her 3-yard ruler ready to pop anyone who did not follow instructions, OUCH! Mr. Corky Gullo, GM of Gullo Mazda, was there to supervise the vehicle making sure no one was planning a heist to steal the vehicle as well as assist in the Lucky Derby. As the anxious contestants began to take their seats, Lion Ladoris reminded everyone that no junior high rules apply, boys & girls can sit together. The first 24 contestants were all eligible to draw a card or steal a prize from an unlucky contestant. Popular prizes this year were Texan tickets (surprisingly), the 55-inch TV, and the 1776 Smudge Pot! It was finally down to the final 4 who were to compete in Round 2 – “The Human Slot Machine” for a chance to win a new car donated by Gullo Auto Group. Contestant pulled a lever where Human slot windows would shuffle between an apple, lemon, grape, orange, and banana. Don’t worry there was no cheating, each Human slot could not tell which fruit the others were placing in the window.
Each contestant would then land on a combination of 3 fruits which would ultimately contribute to finding the final winner of the new car! To keep the suspense going the point system for the fruit remained a secret until the very end. The 4th place winner with a combination of Lemon, Banana, Orange won a new Pit Boss Smoker. The 3rd place winner with a combination of Banana, Apple, Orange won a trip to San Antonio, TX. The 2nd place winner with a combination of Lemon, Orange, Apple won a Cruise! The moment everyone has been waiting for, Drum Roll, the final winner with a combination of Apple, Apple, Orange, Lion Joey Sullivan won the new car graciously donated by Gullo Auto Group!! Conroe Noon can not say ‘thank you’ enough to the ticket buyers, prize sponsors and committee members who put together this spectacular event.
