A big Lion’s roar of thanks to everyone who helped with the many weeks of Preschool Vision Screenings! A massive thank you to every volunteer who made a difference in these children’s lives! You are the real visionaries!
We have another Vision Screening scheduled for Monday, November 17th from 1:00 to 3:00. We’ll be at the Community Assistance Center (CAC) in Conroe. The CAC’s Mission Statement says they are all about “Providing resources to meet basic needs and improve quality of life for our neighbors in Montgomery County.”
This past Saturday our monthly Service Saturday project was Operation Tinsel Takeover at New Danville. We kicked off the season at New Danville – a wonderful community that supports adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We were out there decking the lawns and flower beds with holiday cheer for our dear friends.
This was the Final week for our spirited Fall Membership Drive competition. The club was split alphabetically into 2 teams: Team Longhorns (Last names A – K): Led by Lion Charlie “Hook’em” Irvine vs. Team Aggies (Last names L – Z): Led by Lion Rich “Gig’em” Sproba. The Longhorns are currently leading, but can the Aggies pull out a miracle? Results will be announced at the Big Game – this Wednesday Nov. 19th! Let’s Roar for More – Team!
It’s time for the annual Lucky Derby, Car Raffle! Grand Prize is a New Car (up to $30,000 off MSRP, thanks to the Gullo Auto Group). Conroe Noon at Night is Back – Because Lions need to practice their roaring volume control somewhere, and apparently GuadalaHARRY’s is willing to take that risk. Join us on Wednesday, November 19th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Location: GuadalaHARRY’s Bar & Grill – Downtown Conroe at 219 Simonton Street. Visitors and potential Lions are welcome!
This week, we turned the mic over to our very own Judge Wayne Mack, Justice of the Peace Precinct 1. Judge Mack shared his insights on how your body remembers stress and what we can do to help with our own self-care, and how we can encourage others towards healing and hope. Judge Mack has received the TBRI (Trust Based Relationship Intervention) accreditation and uses these principles as he oversees cases in his courtroom. Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) is a trauma-informed, whole-child approach to caring for vulnerable children and youth. Judge Mack shared that in his experience, people can heal from trauma through caring connection with others.
He praised Lions for our commitment to service and challenged us to continue to focus on transforming lives through sharing hope and building legacies. His final charge to his fellow Lions was to remember that “Hope isn’t the outcome; well-being is the outcome” and that our faith in God is the fuel that makes our actions possible. And “Hope isn’t the light at the end of the tunnel; it is the light that’s IN the tunnel”. Judge Mack received a Lion standing ovation in response to his vulnerable transparency and encouraging words.
