As the sun rose last Saturday, the Conroe Noon Lions Club had their annual Clay Shoot at Blackwood Gun Club to help raise funds for our service projects. Thank you to the community and Lions for leveling up for a sold-out event! Have you ever wondered is my child able to see clearly at a young age? Sometimes younger children cannot communicate their sight issues as they do not know they have them.
Thankfully, the Conroe Noon Lions Club is assisting with quite a few vision screenings for children this month. Our Vision team just kicked off their 15 preschool vision screenings in our area which will run until the beginning of November. On Saturday October 18th, the club will be participating in a Service Saturday Project at the Healthy Kids Festival at Sam Houston Elementary from 8-1pm. Lions will be screening children ages 2-14 to help assist parents in knowing if they need to schedule an eye exam for their child.
The club will also be at the annual Conroe VFW Trunk or Treat on October 25th from 11-3pm offering vision screenings to all the little monsters (costumes welcome). Senior Scholarship opportunities have been posted to Conroe High School, Washington High School, Covenant Christian School, and Lifestyle Christian Schools for our fall Youth Contests. Lastly, Lion Steve Wohlschlaeger with membership gave us a preview of the upcoming membership drive where we are encouraging members to ‘Roar for More.’ The competition will be fierce as the club will be split into 2 teams and Lions will be learning to Level-Up their Lions’ pride and Level-Up our community impact!
The lunchroom was packed this past Wednesday as the highly anticipated speaker Scott Toland took the center spotlight! Scott worked in the West Wing of the White House from 2018- 2021 during President Trump’s first term. During this time, he served as Special Assistant to the President & the Assistant Staff Secretary which every club member was feeling the pressures of those positions as his story was told. Scott was responsible for briefing President Trump before he delivered speeches & signed documents, with many being classified! One of the most important moments for Mr. Scott that left a lasting impact was when he had to fly the 5,593 page COVID Relief Bill to Palm Beach, FL to present in front of the President for signature.
Can you imagine the pressure of ensuring all the physical paper documents made it to the destination without being out of order, damaged, or worse lost? Scott rose above the standards on this situation and was awarded the pen that Mr. Trump used to sign the bill which is a HUGE honor. Highlights for Mr. Toland also included flying on Air Force 1 and being responsible for Trump’s Nightly Book, which contained the information for the next day. Thanks Scott, for sharing your story with our club and giving us a heads up of which street (17) to be very mindful of in Washington D.C.
