December is beginning in a rush of winter activity with all Conroe Noon Lions ready to bring good cheer to our community! The December 3rd meeting included Derby suspense, committee business, and a program that should make you rethink every link you click. The countdown began for the 28 finalists in the Lucky Derby car raffle. These lucky individuals will return on December 10th to find out who will win a brand-new car, donated by Gullo Auto Group! Other winners will walk away with super exciting prizes. Join us for the nail-biting showdown!
Lions are always ready to serve and continue to provide connections and support to Reaves Elementary School. Santa’s Lion elves purchased gifts for some very deserving kiddos, and the Reaves committee needs your help wrapping them. So join the fun after the club meeting on December 10th. Then on December 19th you can be part of Santa’s Lions escort squad as he greets Reaves’ students, please sign up through the CNLC office.
Winter warmth items are needed for our elderly Christmas Basket recipients. Our toiletry drive continues through December 12th. Please bring standard-size items, including soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, brushes, combs, deodorant, toothpaste, and toothbrushes to club meetings or drop off at the office. The Eyeglass Center will turn into a full-on food warehouse on December 16th as we sort, pack, and box Christmas Basket items. The Lion elves will be delivering boxes after the Christmas Social on December 17th. Sign up through the office to help deliver baskets and bring Christmas cheer to 35 Santa-loving Senior Citizens!
Our annual Christmas Social and final club meeting of the year, on December 17th will be a time of fun and frivolity! Get ready to play some Reindeer Games, win prizes, imbibe in some eggnog, and celebrate the holidays with new and old friends. Mr. Scrooge himself will join us along with the Players Theatre Company from the Owens Theater production of ‘A Christmas Carol – The Musical”. And…Santa will make a special appearance for Lions on the “Nice” list!
At our meeting on December 3rd, Lions were educated on the dangers lurking in the digital world by Lion David Heath, who explained how social media platforms both help and hurt us, and how we should be alert to targeted efforts to harm us. David shared the definition of SOCIAL ENGINEERING: The process of attempting to trick someone into revealing information, such as a password, or taking an action that can compromise security… It involves deceiving an individual by building trust to obtain unauthorized access or committing fraud. He shared a process that we should go through every time we receive an email, text, or phone call. Being wary and careful will keep your information, identity, and life savings safe. David said that we should be aware of the “bad guy” tactics of making false promises to lure victims into sharing sensitive information or installing malware on their system. Ronald Reagan gave the sage advice to “Trust but verify” which we can use in our highly digitized environment. He also updated us on the rise of Artificial Intelligence in every aspect of our lives saying that “in 12-24 months, you won’t be able to tell the difference between what’s real and what’s generated by AI”. Lions are smart and protective life-long learners, and we received great information to help us support each other and stay safe!
