Are you ready to Rodeo?!? It is time for the Montgomery County Fair & Rodeo already and Conroe Noon Lions Club is in crunch time! Before the members could cram for an exam on Fair Concessions, there were still quite a few things going on this month they needed reminders about.
On April 22nd the Lions will be assisting the Community Assistance Center in the Community Care Day serving Montgomery County by providing vision screenings. The event will be located at the Lone Star College System Office from 9 am to 3pm if you are in need. The vision team will also be handing out readers at the Montgomery County Fair – Senior Citizen Day. April 9th.
The District Lions Club Convention will be April 24-25th where Lion Wes Carr will be running for 2nd Vice District Governor and Lion & 3rd Vice President Andrew Perry will be celebrating his PDG Distinguished Achievement Award. The club is assisting the district by selling raffle tickets and will be providing shower curtains with rings for the district convention service project.
This week as auctioneer Lion C. Pat was preparing himself for his big debut, Lion Brandon Steinmann informed the Club about the first order of business which was raising funds for the club’s Montgomery County Fair Buyers Group.
The Conroe Noon Lions Club has an auction at their weekly meeting each year to raise funds that will be used for the Montgomery County Fair Non-Livestock, Livestock, and Sunshine Day Auctions. Items up for auction this year were a Lemond Pound Cake, Apple Goodness Pie, Chocolate Pecan Pie, Earl Campbell signed jersey, 2 Tickets to the Theater, 4 tickets to an Astros game and the best for last a German Chocolate Cake. The auction could not have been a success without the donors & auction winners; Vicki Musgrove, Robert Walker, Jamie & Lisa Ballard, Ricky Morton, Bert Steinmann, Charlie Hearn, George Waggoner, Donnie Buckalew, Charlie Irvine, and Tommy Moore. Lion Brandon & Jamie gave a huge Thank You to all Lions who donated toward this great cause of supporting our kids at the fair!
With a hard act to follow, but an important one, Lion 3rd Vice President Andrew Perry reminded the club do not ask if this is the program because it was and it was all things Fair! The Lions will be busy at the Concession stand starting Thursday April 9th and you can already smell the corn dogs cooking! The Conroe Noon Lions Club provides concession services to the Montgomery County Fair – Livestock Barn every year to keep all the youth out of the ‘Hangry’ category.
The club provides a feasible option for all exhibitors during the fair week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The club was quizzed on the ins and outs of running the concession stand with the correct answers being rewarded with Crunch Bars (Crunch Time), Cotton Candy, Reese’s Pieces, and Nerds. Lion Andrew gave the opportunity for the seasoned Lions to share their experiences at the concession stand for the newer club members. Members reminisced about many conversations on the topic of Jello, especially Lion Warner. The Club was reminded that Concessions will not be possible without every Lion lending a hand!
Reminder, especially for Lion Ricky Morton, the club will not meet on April 15th due to the concession stand. Hopefully the Lions are not too distracted to have their taxes filed on time!
