HELLO …. from the Conroe Noon Lions Club! Well, it’s finally here, we’ve been talking about it and planning since the first of the year for our annual Dinner/Dance & Auction. It’s actually the 20th anniversary of this event, which takes place on Thursday, February 26th. It’s now a sold-out event, full of wonderful auction items and world class cuisine. So, grab those tickets and board the plan for our travel themed ‘Travel, ROAR, Explore’ night of adventure.
We also have incredible news from our Leo Club made up of local high school students who want to work on community service projects in our club and within their own. Last week, eighteen new members were installed to join more than fifty current members. These Leo Club members are outstanding students who have pledged to serve our community by helping others make a real difference locally & globally. If you’re a student ages 12 to 18, come check it out. The Leo Club meets on the second and fourth Mondays of every month from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce at 505 West Davis Street, downtown Conroe. Did I mention they have fun? That’s something they are learning from our Lions Club. Great fun was had at this past week’s meeting when Lion Wes Carr led the Club in a team-building exercise to increase camaraderie by having us get to know some fun facts about our fellow Lions. We were asked to sit at a table with Lions we don’t normally sit with (wives included) and then answer a series of personal questions about the highest award we’d ever won, the craziest thing we’d ever done, the most famous people we’d ever met, and what was the most unusual talent or skill we had. Among the different answers were: one member who attended the famous, Woodstock concert; a member who met Roy Rogers and Dale Evans as a high school student; a member who was in a country singer’s music video; a female member who was propositioned by heavyweight boxer Evander Holyfield; and a member who’s college friend graduated to become a pilot in Viet Nam and who lost his life on his first mission. But the winner was Virginia Clements who won a gold medal in 1952 for speed roller-skating. Congratulations Lion Virginia!
Another congratulations to Lion Charlie Hearne awarded Lion of the Month for January 2026 for his hard work at the Service Saturday project when the Lions helped a single Mom with repairs to windows, drywall, and other home fixes that she could not afford to do herself. This Saturday, February 21st, we’ll be heading out to Bridgewood Farms for more helpful fixes and repairs. We Serve!
DON’T FORGET that applications are now being accepted for disabled children and their families to attend the world-famous Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville this summer. Contact any Lion to get the application and we will get it processed.
