A woman who investigators say was recorded taking items from inside a west Houston cemetery mausoleum is now in custody, according to Harris County Precinct 5 Constable Terry Allbritton.
The constable’s office said Renee Amber Fennel, 37, of Conroe was arrested Wednesday night at her residence in Conroe. Officials credited precinct detectives, deputies and the agency’s Strategic Response Unit with tracking her down following what they described as a detailed investigation.
Authorities previously released surveillance footage that appears to show someone opening mausoleum niches and removing mementos and valuables. The constable’s office said a toddler visible in the video was also present when Fennel was taken into custody; the child was later released to a relative.
Fennel is charged with two felonies — burglary and theft from a graveyard — the constable’s office said.
Officials also noted Fennel has a history of arrests in Harris County, including allegations involving forgery, theft, drug possession, DWI and assault.
After the arrest, the constable’s office said she was transferred to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, where she is expected to be questioned about additional cases in that area.
