Incumbent Sara Countryman is reelected as mayor, according to unofficial voting results from Montgomery County Elections.
Countryman gained 39.92%, or 188 votes, while challengers Mark Gess had 29.51%, or 139 votes, Art Aguilar had 27.81%, or 131 votes, and Kristin Gyldenege saw 2.76%, or 13 votes, per unofficial voting results from Montgomery County Elections.
“Although my opponents worked really hard trying to tear down my character and name I’m glad the people of this city saw my hardworking and knew exactly what to do to keep me in office,” Countryman said. “My job is not done and I appreciate the opportunity to continue.”
Cheryl Fox also reclaimed her position as council member Place 4, defeating Efrain Lucas, according to unofficial voting results from Montgomery County Elections.
Fox had 67.89%, or 296 votes, while Lucas had 32.11%, or 140 votes.
“I certainly appreciate all the voters that turned out,” Fox said. “I appreciate all the support.”

Sara Countryman and Cheryl Fox are leading in the Montgomery mayor and council Place 4 races, respectively, according to unofficial early voting results from Montgomery County Elections.

In the race for Montgomery mayor, Countryman has 45.71%, or 160 votes, while Mark Gess has 27.71%, or 97 votes, Art Aguilar has 24%, or 84 votes, and Kristin Gyldenege has 2.57% or 9 votes, according to unofficial early voting results from Montgomery County Elections.
For the Place 4 election, Fox has 69.09%, or 228 votes, while Efrain Lucas has 30.91%, or 102 votes, according to unofficial early voting results from Montgomery County Elections.
On the ballot
Montgomery voters are casting ballots May 2 in two contested city races, including the mayor’s race and City Council Place 4.
What we know
Montgomery County saw 21,253 voters cast ballots during early voting for the May 2 election, as previously reported. Of those, 18,052 ballots were cast in person, and 3,201 were submitted by mail.
Some context
The mayor serves as the city’s elected leader and presides over City Council meetings. Council members vote on city policy, budgets, development items, contracts and other local matters.
What else?
Totals from ballots cast on election day have not yet been released. Polls closed at 7 p.m., although voters who were in line at that time were still able to cast ballots.
