CYT Houston is excited to announce its upcoming production of Bye Bye Birdie, a lively, family-friendly musical that captures the spirit of the 1950s with humor, heart, and unforgettable songs.
Featuring a talented cast of local teenage students, the show will run May 8–10 and May 15–17 at the Historic Crighton Theatre.
Inspired by the frenzy surrounding early rock-and-roll idols, Bye Bye Birdie follows teen heartthrob Conrad Birdie as he prepares for military service—sparking chaos, excitement, and a nationwide media spectacle. Filled with classic numbers like “Put On a Happy Face,” “A Lot of Livin’ to Do,” and “Kids,” the production promises an entertaining experience for audiences of all ages.
“We can’t wait to bring Bye Bye Birdie to life!” said director Christine Tonkin. “This classic, high-energy musical is wacky, laugh-out-loud funny, and full of heart.”
The artistic team includes several familiar faces from the Conroe theater community: Phillip Harris (Assistant Director), Veronica Amandola (Vocal Director), and Mieka Phillips (Choreographer).
Bye Bye Birdie is sure to leave audiences smiling and tapping their toes as they step back into 2026 after a nostalgic visit to the 1950s.
