Danean Myers of Rebel Joan of Arc proudly signs her Legacy Membership Application in memory of her Mother, Helen Wiley. Legacy Membership Applications are available for a deceased female, proven in the lineage on an approved Original Membership or Supplemental Membership application that is on file in the Business Office and who was never a member of the Organization.
Helen’s Ancestor was her Great Grandfather, Paul Palmer, who served in Co B, 12th Regiment of the Missouri Cavalry. He served honorably and was paroled on June 7, 1865 in Alexandria, LA.
He was born in Germany in 1832 and immigrated to this country with his family as a young boy in 1840. The family settled in Ste Genevieve, Missouri as farmers along with other German families. He and his wife came to Texas in 1875 and settled in Gay Hill, Milam Co., Texas. He died at the age of 81 on April 16, 1914 and is buried in the Hirt-Braun Cemetery in Marjorie, Texas.
Family was always the center of Helen’s life. Growing up in Houston with 4 siblings and a large extended family, the family celebrated every occasion and would get together at every opportunity. Honoring her legacy of family and remembrance is an honor. Joining as a Legacy Member would have been a great achievement for her. She believed that legacy and family were important. She instilled her love of history and the importance of family in her family. Helen passed away Jan 8, 2025.
I have been honored to serve as past Registrar for Rebel Joan of Arc and enjoyed helping other ladies discover their family history and lineage. I have had the honor to receive many awards for my work from the National and State UDC and my chapter. Rebel Joan of Arc is a special organization and the ladies of the chapter are like a group of sisters. It has been a wonderful opportunity for me and I am proud to honor my Mother.
