For fans of F Scott Fitzgerald‘s classic 1925 novel, The Great Gatsby, the long wait is over for a chance to see the splashy, Tony Award-winning musical that took Broadway by storm in 2024.
Tipping its hat to the Roaring Twenties era in which the story is set, the show has an intriguing book by Kait Kerrigan, as well as a jazzy score highlighted by Music & Lyrics from previous Tony Award nominees, Jason Howland (“Beautiful: The Carole King Musical”) and Nathan Tyson, (“Paradise Square). As the North American tour visits Houston this week, all of these elements are smoothly woven together in a glamorous, glitzy, and eye-popping production from another veteran of the “Carole King Musical,” the award-winning Director, Mark Bruni.
An air of mystery permeates this engrossing tale of a strange millionaire named Jay Gatsby, whose eccentricities propel much of the plot. Surrounded by a wide array of equally exotic characters, he seems to be on an endless quest to recapture the long lost love of his youth, Daisy Buchanan. It is interesting to note that Fitzgerald’s inspiration for the novel was based on his own youthful romance with New York socialite, Ginevra King, as the story tells of their many adventures with wild partying amid the upper classes of Long Island’s fashionable North Shore. The glittering production shines in many ways, and it is no wonder that its fabulous fashions garnered the 2024 Tony Award for Best Costumes. Why not dress up yourself and head down to Houston’s Hobby Center for a chance to experience this shimmering night of such elegance, mystery, and toe-tapping fun that Entertainment Weekly has dubbed it, “an extravaganza that explodes with life and energy.”
Performances for this limited run March 3-8 will be Mon.-Sat 7:30 pm, with weekend matinees Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 1:30 pm, and a final performance at 7pm Sunday evening.

The Hobby Center on-site parking garage is located immediately adjacent to the complex and is accessible from both Rusk and Walker Streets. Self-parking in the garage is $20 per vehicle.
Valet parking is available in the Hobby Center circle drive on Bagby Street. The current cost is $35. Lexus drivers enjoy complimentary valet parking courtesy of Houston Area Lexus Dealers, subject to availability.
NOTE: Valet and Hobby Center garage parking is subject to availability. Large attendance at various performances may create high demand limiting access and resulting in the closing of valet and/or self-parking prior to the start time of a performance. Overflow Parking is available in Theater District Parking Garages with entrances on both Rusk and Capitol Streets, when necessary.
For patron safety and security, all bags are subject to inspection before entering the theater. Oversized bags, luggage and backpacks may not be permitted inside the venue. Walkthrough metal detectors are also used as part of the security check.
