Fog, speeding or lack of street lighting may have caused some of the crashes on 290, 59, Louetta Road, Fondren Road and Montgomery County, investigators said.
HOUSTON — It was a deadly 31 hours on Houston roadways, where at least seven people died in five separate crashes across the area.
The latest wreck shut down a busy freeway for more than three hours early Monday.
Also on Monday, Houston police released more details about the other deadly accidents on Saturday night and Sunday.

Pedestrian struck by motorcycle on Highway 290
All outbound lanes of the Northwest Freeway were shut down early Monday as Houston police and firefighters responded to a deadly crash near 34th Street.
Police said a gray Honda motorcycle was heading north on Highway 290 just after 3 a.m. when he struck a pedestrian.
Several bystanders stopped to help and to perform CPR on the victim, who was pronounced dead on the scene by HFD paramedics. HPD later said the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing in a dimly lit area of the freeway.
Police said a 33-year-old man who was thrown from his motorcycle was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital with multiple broken bones. His bike was found about 100 yards away from where the crash occurred.
290 reopened around 6:40 a.m.
Pedestrian killed in northwest Harris County
Six hours earlier, around 9 p.m. Sunday, another pedestrian was killed on Louetta Road at Carrot Street, near Kuykendahl Road in northwest Harris County.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said a Honda Accord was traveling westbound when it hit the man, who was either crossing the roadway or walking in that same westbound lane.
Sheriff’s deputies say the 23-year-old driver stopped and is cooperating with the investigation.
Investigators said the area of Louetta Road where the crash occurred is very dark and has no street lighting.
Woman killed in fiery Montgomery County crash
An unidentified woman was killed in a fiery crash in New Caney around 4 a.m. on Sunday.
She was driving a Chevrolet Traverse on the SH-99/Grand Parkway feeder road when she lost control and crashed into a traffic signal pole.
21-year-old man dies in Eastex Freeway crash
Back in Houston, two people were thrown from a vehicle around 2 a.m. on Sunday after the driver lost control while exiting Highway 59 to the 610 East Loop.
The gray Infiniti Q50 crashed into a large dirt pile near Kelley Street before going airborne and striking a tree, according to HPD.
The driver, later identified as 21-year-old Ricardo Herrera, was thrown from the vehicle and killed.
Three passengers, including one who was also ejected, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
2 killed in 290 crash early Sunday
Less than half an hour earlier, a foggy Northwest Freeway was the scene of a crash that killed two people on Sunday.
HPD investigators say the victims were in a green Ford Expedition that was speeding westbound toward 43rd Street on the service road. The driver lost control around 1:30 a.m. and slammed into a barricade near the entrance ramp.
The impact caused the SUV to burst into flames, killing the driver and a passenger.
77-year-old driver killed in southwest Houston crash
Houston police believe a man killed in a crash just after 8 p.m. on Saturday may have suffered a medical emergency.
The victim was driving a red Toyota 4Runner southbound on Fondren Road when he crossed the median and slammed into a tree.
The 77-year-old man was rushed to an area hospital, but he didn’t survive. His name hasn’t been released.
No other vehicles were involved.
The investigation into all of these crashes continues.
