THE WOODLANDS, Texas — A van driver managed to walk away after their vehicle became lodged underneath an 18-wheeler Friday afternoon in Montgomery County.
It happened on the northbound I-45 feeder road, just south of FM 1488 in The Woodlands.
The Woodlands Fire Department says crews responded around 3 p.m. along with Montgomery County Hospital District and Needham Fire & Rescue/Montgomery County ESD #4. Engine 106 was first on scene and found the van wedged under the trailer of the big rig.
Despite the dramatic crash, the van’s driver was able to get out of the vehicle without help. After being checked by medics, both drivers declined transport to the hospital.
Firefighters used specialized equipment, including Paratech struts and air bags, to lift the trailer off the van and winch it free so the roadway could be cleared.
