The genealogy room of the Montgomery County Central Library in Conroe recently hosted an open house touting the installation of new digital equipment that has been added and is now operational and available for use.
Laura Polite, genealogy librarian and author of the grant that secured the funds for the digital equipment, explained that “this is just the beginning. There is more to come.” Use of the grant funds from the Mellon Foundation spans a five-year period and includes funds for a mobile unit equipped with portable equipment to “take the show on the road.”
So, dust off your old family VHS tapes, reel to reel films, scrapbooks, slides and DVDs and digitally archive them onto a thumb drive or other media. You will learn how to operate the equipment yourself. A library assistant will be available to answer your questions. All you need is the time to invest in this service that is offered at no charge to you. The equipment is available during normal library hours.
