A new competitive circuit is uniting Houston’s TCG community. Starting Feb. 15, The Adventure Begins Comics, Games and More will host a six-month Flesh and Blood tournament series, partnering with local player organization Blood on the Bayou to create a rotating circuit that rewards consistency, skill and community.
Running through July on the third Sunday of each month, the circuit allows players to earn points toward $8,000 in prizes and a championship finale while building momentum for Houston’s growing player base.
What is Flesh and Blood?
Flesh and Blood blends competitive gameplay with fantasy-inspired characters, but the experience is rooted in strategy and decision-making rather than chance.
Matches are one-on-one and last about 55 minutes per round, with multiple rounds determining tournament standings and playoff advancement.
“It’s a strategy card game where your hero defines your playstyle,” TCG Manager Ryan McDonald said. “You’ll see characters like ninjas, assassins, Warriors and necromancers, but it’s not role-playing; it’s tactical.”
How the circuit works
The circuit links monthly events into a season-long competition for players of all levels.
Circuit dates include:
- Feb. 15: Silver age
- March 15: Classic constructed
- April 19: Silver age
- May 17: Classic constructed
- June 21: Silver age
- July 12: Classic constructed
The silver age format is more affordable because it only uses common and rare cards, while the classic constructed format allows players to build full decks using nearly the entire Flesh and Blood card history.
Players earn points based on participation and performance, tracked throughout the six-month series. All participants earn rewards, but top point earners will qualify for a season finale and compete for larger prizes.
Players can join the series at any point and aren’t required to attend every event, though those aiming for the season finale are encouraged to participate from the beginning to maximize their points.
The circuit encourages consistent play, friendly competition and stronger connections in Houston’s growing Flesh and Blood community.
Where competition meets community
Unlike many publisher-driven competitive gaming events, this circuit is fueled by local players.
“The community makes this possible,” McDonald said. “Blood on the Bayou isn’t a company pushing this; it’s players coming together because they love the game and want it to grow in Houston.”
Organizers describe the environment as intentionally kind, welcoming and supportive, where experienced competitors and first-time players feel comfortable jumping in, asking questions and building connections. The goal is not just competition, but creating a place where people feel included.
