Lake Conroe Lions: Club members hear from local air-traffic controller

Lake Conroe Centennial Lions Club held a General Meeting recently at the Walden Yacht Club. The meeting opened with a prayer followed by the Pledge to the American Flag and then the Pledge to the Texas Flag.  Lots of “Good News” was shared (Art Drouin is not moving to Dallas and Katherine Maher is going on vacation!) followed by reports from various committee chairs.  

Then the Guest Speaker for the evening, Holly Cron, was introduced. 

Holly has been a Houston ARTCC Air Traffic Controller since 2012.  In addition, she has been an NATCA Pilot Outreach Liaison, a FAAST Service Provider and a Commercial and Instrument pilot since 2006.  

Holly shared her story on how she became an Air Traffic Controller.  As far back as she can remember, she was fascinated by aviation.  This led her to pursue two B.S. Degrees, multiple certifications, and an airline internship before she launched her career in Air Traffic Control.

After years of intensive training, including time in Washington, D.C., Oklahoma City, and eventually Houston, Holly found herself thriving in a fast-paced, high-responsibility environment. She and her husband, Brandon, moved to the Houston area in 2012.  Since then, they have been committed to building strong roots in their community. 

Holly stated that the motto of an Air Traffic Controller is to “keep the planes and us safe, orderly and expeditious.”  She also noted that the Corpus Christi area has the most military aircraft to track.  Thank you, Holly, for educating us on what it takes to be an Air Traffic Controller.

The meeting was adjourned with Jeanne Greenburg winning the 50/50 drawing!  Congratulations!
