Lake Conroe Centennial Lions Club held a General Meeting recently at Walden Yacht. President Katherine Maher called the meeting to order at 6 pm followed by a prayer given by Bill Hogan. Next Shirley Abt led us in the Pledge to the United States flag and then the Pledge to the Texas flag. We had only one February birthday celebrant and that was Robert Neilsen. Happiest of birthdays to you!
There were lots of Good News shared. Dian Dodd’s Great-Granddaughter is doing much better! Yea! Marie Underdown mentioned an upcoming to trip to celebrate grandson’s 4th birthday. And Paulie Geiselhart was just named the Ladies Association of Walden’s Lady of the Year! Wow! What an honor! Congratulations!
Katherine reported on the Mid-winter Conference. She had a great time and learned a lot. Attendees also delivered gloves, scarves and mittens for Project Cozy Hands and Kind Hearts.
Then Theresa May introduced the Guest Speaker, Madison Perry, a member of the Conroe Noon Lions Club, who spoke on Lions’ Opportunities for Youth Contests (MD-2), specifically the “Outstanding Youth Contest.” Students are to submit a 750-to-1000-word essay on “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Its Impact on Education.” Contestants must also provide supporting documentations that highlight personal achievements, leadership experiences, and a commitment to community service. The judging process emphasizes not only academic merit but also qualities of character and citizenship.
Madison went on to say that each contestant must be a junior or senior in high school at the time of the MD-2 contest and that the 1st Place winner will receive a $3,000 scholarship. 2nd a $2,000 scholarship and 3rd a $1,000 scholarship, paid directly to the university, college, junior college or vocational school that he/she will be attending.
