Lake Conroe Centennial Lions Club held a General Meeting recently at Walden Yacht Club. President Katherine Maher called the meeting to order, with Bill Hogan starting us off with a prayer. Bob Neilsen then led us all in the Pledges to the American Flag and the Texas Flag. After the Treasurer’s and Secretary’s reports, we celebrated our May birthdays with a rousing Happy Birthday song!
Next, Jan Jessen, Art Drouin, Bob Neilsen and Jeanne Greenberg reported on their trip to the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville, Texas. Texas Lions Camp is a summer camping facility dedicated to serving children from the State of Texas with physical disabilities and Type 1 diabetes. It is a non-profit organization funded by the Lions Clubs of Texas and other caring individuals. Many thanks go to Jan, Art, Bob and Jeanne for all of your hard work for this worthy cause!
Speaking of hard work, our next order of business was announcing this year’s scholarship winners. Congratulations to Conner Boris, Jasmin Aguilar, Julia Louwerens, Collin George, Hailey Dolan, and Ava Palidino! We are so proud of our winning seniors and wish them much success in their future endeavors.
Then Katherine introduced our Guest Speakers for the evening, Danny (Dan-O) and Michele Olortegui with Funkengruven Car Club.
Funkengruven Car Club assists with putting on car shows throughout the Houston area. They do everything from creating eye-catching flyers, social media advertising, attending area car shows to hand out flyers, providing a QR code for online registration and day of registration/liability release paperwork, getting the best deals on custom trophies, tallying the judging to make it streamline, scheduling the event hour by hour, interviewing car owners at events, keeping the crowd entertained (both spectators and car owners), organizing parking assistance with the use of 2-way radios, assigning duties for volunteers and MCing event with their sound system.
In addition, they provide a Hot Wheel Experience for the kids (where kids race Hot Wheels) and a RC Sumo for the young and young oat heart!
In addition, when hosting with another organization, they will help by getting donations, which can be monies to use for trophies, auction items or 50/50 drawings. In other words, they do it all! Thank you for sharing with us. (For more information, contact Michele Olortegui at micheleolortegui@hotmail.com).
Speaking of 50/50 drawings, the meeting closed with Chandler Anderson winning LCCLC’s drawing for the evening! Congratulations, Chandler!
