Lake Conroe Area Republican Women were proud to celebrate another inspiring year of the “My American Hero Essay Contest”, showcasing the heartfelt and patriotic stories written by 5th grade students of Montgomery Independent School District.
This year, LCARW had the honor of reviewing 187 essays submitted from seven MISD elementary campuses. Each essay reflected thoughtful appreciation for the heroes who make a difference in the lives of these students. From first responders and military service members, to teachers, family members, and community leaders, these essays reminded us all of what it truly means to be an American hero.
From each campus, 13 outstanding students were recognized including: 10 Honorable Mentions, a 3rd Place Winner, a 2nd Place Winner, and a 1st Place Winner.

Lone Star Elementary – Alyvia Lindamood, Holton Hughes and Savannah Mackie
LCARW members Nancy Oughton, Stephanie Johnson and Sharyn Link visited each participating elementary school to personally announce the winners. Students were presented with certificates and ribbons, celebrating their achievements and the powerful stories they shared. The excitement and pride in each school made this day especially meaningful for everyone involved.
One of LCARW’s more cherished traditions – the “My American Hero” luncheon was Thursday at Walden Yacht Club. This special event highlighted the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners, who shared their essays and the stories of their heroes.
LCARW was once again honored to welcome to this event MISD faculty and staff, essay winners and their families, and in many cases, the heroes themselves. This is truly a heartwarming and memorable event. It’s a powerful reminder that patriotism is alive and well in the next generation.
