For many, saving money isn’t about discipline—it’s about getting started. Setting aside large sums can feel overwhelming, especially with everyday expenses.

That’s the gap Community Resource Credit Union aimed to close with its new CoRe Ownership Account—a tool designed to make saving feel like a part of daily life.

Saving money reimagined

Unlike traditional savings accounts that rely on intentional deposits, the CoRe Ownership Account flips the script. Instead of requiring members to move money, it grows through everyday activity.

Programs like Round Up and Swipe and Save automatically move small amounts into the account, while dividend transfers allow earnings from other CRCU accounts to move to this account to grow more quickly. Members can also grow their balance through referral rewards, refinancing an auto loan with the credit union, and other engagement-based perks.

“It’s unique because it isn’t about writing a big check or having a huge sum of money to start; it’s about rewarding you for actively participating with the credit union,” Chief Experience Officer Brenda Weinberger said. “It’s a simple, stress-free way to build a future just by going about your daily life.”

Built for real life

Flexibility is a key feature. While the account encourages saving, members can access their funds anytime through online banking, mobile tools, or in-person support.

Importantly, there are no fees or minimum balance requirements—an intentional decision to remove barriers for those starting their financial journey.

“We didn’t want a single obstacle standing in anyone’s way because financial freedom looks different for everyone,” Weinberger said.

A stronger community, one member at a time

CRCU is launching the account with a limited-time 8% APY to attract attention and help members build financial cushions faster.

The bigger vision goes beyond individual accounts.

“When our members are more secure, it strengthens our entire community,” Weinberger said.

More than an account

What sets the CoRe Ownership Account apart isn’t just how it grows—it’s what it represents.

With a $5 initial deposit, members become part owners of the credit union, reflecting the cooperative model at CRCU.

“That $5 actually buys your share in the credit union,” Weinberger said. “It gives you equity, a real voice, and ensures we stay strong for our entire community.”

This ownership model reinforces a broader mission: creating long-term financial partnerships rather than one-time transactions.

Get started today

New members automatically get the CoRe Ownership Account upon opening an account. Existing members can add it through online banking or by contacting a personal financial officer.

Paired with a traditional savings account, it creates a balanced approach—one for planned goals and one that grows effortlessly in the background.
