Coushatti Trace Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, sponsors the DAR Good Citizens Contest at Lake Creek, Montgomery and Willis High Schools. Their entries are sent to the chapter where a committee of judges selects the winner who is submitted to the Texas Society Daughters of the America Revolution for further consideration. This year, the chapter selected Montgomery High School DAR Good Citizen Cassidy Boeger for this honor.
The DAR Good Citizens Contest recognizes outstanding high school seniors who exhibit the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. Miss Boeger demonstrates good citizenship while serving as the Head Drum Major of the band, the Captain of the varsity basketball team and on the Senior Leadership Team at the Fellowship of Montgomery Church. As a student enrolled in the education pathway, she serves as a teacher’s assistant at a local elementary school and will be studying Primary Education in the fall at Stephen F. Austin University.
As President of the Choir Council, Lake Creek DAR Good Citizen Loren Flood’s focus on building connections has transformed the program’s culture into one that feels genuinely welcoming and united. She serves as Vice President of the Turning Point USA Chapter/Club America and works for Victory Social Media. Loren plans to study Psychology at Texas A&M, in the fall, and then transfer to their Nursing Program.
Willis High School DAR Good Citizen Phoenix Rushing has shown top-level performance as an Air Force JROTC cadet and was appointed as the Leadership Development Requirements (LDR) Commander by USAF Colonel (Retired) Vicent B. Jefferson who directs the unit. Miss Rushing channels her creativity and organizational skills as President of the National Art Honor Society, where she leads community art projects.
During the year-end award ceremonies, Coushatti Trace Chapter, DAR Good Citizens Chair Kay Pontious will award Cassidy Boeger, Loren Flood and Phoenix Rushing the DAR Good Citizens Certificate and Pin. Miss Boeger will also receive a $1000 scholarship while Miss Flood and Miss Rushing will receive $100 Book Scholarships. At the May chapter meeting, the students, their parents and the counselors are invited to a celebration hosted by the chapter.
