Lone Star Family Health Center is preparing to add vision services this year, expanding access to affordable eye care for Montgomery County-area patients.
The new service is being supported by the Conroe Noon Lions Club, which contributed a $100,000 grant, plus an additional $10,000 per year for five years, to help fund the program’s development and launch, according to a May 13 news release.

The vision services will include routine vision screenings and eye exams to help assess overall eye health and detect common vision concerns, per the release.
Karen Harwell, CEO of Lone Star Family Health Center, said the new service continues the nonprofit’s work to address health care disparities.
“Our new vision services reflect Lone Star Family Health Center’s continued commitment to focus on healthcare disparities and ensuring the community has access to high-quality care, regardless of ability to pay,” Harwell said in the release.
Why it matters
Lone Star Family Health Center is a nonprofit, federally qualified health center that has served underserved, underinsured and uninsured patients in Montgomery County since 2002, according to the release.
The health center currently offers family medicine, OB-GYN, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy and other services across five locations, with a sixth Magnolia location opening soon.
