This week’s Veteran is Cory Kammerdeiner, who served in the U.S. Navy from 1993 – 2005, with 2001 – 2005 being served in the Naval Reserves. Cory was a Diver in the Navy, serving on the USS Drum (SSN-677), and USS Dolphin (AGSS-555). He did his training in San Diego, California, and was also stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Kammerdeiner was involved with underwater special operations, which is hush-hush stuff. He also took part in the Near-Term Mine Reconnaissance System, or NMRS, in its early stages, which was a program developed to bring a mine warfare capability to the U.S. Submarine Force before a long-term system could be developed. The NMRS consisted of two torpedo-shaped, tethered unmanned underwater vehicles that were launched and retrieved from the torpedo tubes on Los Angeles-class submarines, such as the USS Drum. With the long term system achieved, the program served its purpose. Kammerdeiner also went on to serve as a Navy recruiter. He is from a multi-generational military family. Following his service, Cory was instrumental in developing national online mortgage products, and today owns Homerock Realty and Mortgage in The Woodlands.
