This week’s Veteran is Julia LeClair, who served in the U.S. Marine Corp, from 1998-2015. Julia was a Corrections Specialist, which is an important job to handle Marines who have gone afoul of The Uniform Code of Military Justice, or UCMJ, the body of law that governs the United States Armed Forces. LeClair was a guard and corrections councilor, working in brigs, which is the jail name used primarily by the Navy and Marine Corps for short-term confinements, or if a Sailor or Marine was awaiting trial. If they were convicted, it is off to the hoosegow for them, which is a U.S. Navy Consolidated Brig, or prison. Julia was stationed in Okinawa, Japan; Miramar, California; Camp LeJuene, North Carolina; and Afghanistan, where she was involved with detainee operations being attached to National Guard units, so she was all over the country. LeClair even taught at the Corrections School at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. She now works as a Therapist at a Veterans Center separate from the VA. LeClair got her first Bearded Dragon, Pog, last year, who literally hangs around her. He’s not an emotional support reptile, she just likes the company.
