This week’s Veteran is Priscilla Greeno, who served in the U.S. Navy from 1998 – 2003. Having finished her secondary education early, Priscilla entered service at 17 years old, which is unique, since parents are required to give their consent for their son or daughter to begin service to Our Nation. Greeno began her career as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate, working on the Navy SH-60 helicopter, or Seahawk, and as a plane captain was responsible for the helicopters upkeep and repair of structural components such as landing gear, hydraulics, flight controls, and engines. Her duties would include conducting and documenting preflight and postflight inspections, as well as working in hangars on land or on ship. When not on her land base, Priscilla was assigned to USS Shiloh (CG-67), a Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser, which maintains a helicopter for its anti-submarine warfare mission. While in service, Greeno met and married her husband, who was also a sailor in the Navy. Following the delivery of her first child, Priscilla switched to Yeoman administrative duties until she left the Navy. Greeno’s husband went on to a long service career with multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Following her service to the Navy, Priscilla raised her children, and went on to receive a Bachelors and Masters degree in Human Resources and Human Behavior.
