This week’s Veteran is Sean White, who served in the U.S. Army from 2002 – 2009. Sean was in the Armor Branch, and he loved being a Tank Crewman. He received his basic and advanced training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and then was stationed at the Kelley Hill barracks at Fort Benning, Georgia. White wanted to go to Jump School to be a Parachutist, but his Sergeant Major put a kibosh on it, since no one heard of an airborne tanker, and thought it ridiculous. Sean did two tours in Iraq in 2003 and 2005. White’s first tour saw him in many places, while his second tour was more centralized to Camp Taqaddum, which was also an airbase. On his tours, White of like so many soldiers, saw things that were overwhelming, and lost a good battle buddy. After his service, Sean was an at-risk Veteran, self-medicating trying to deal with his depression, and he admits it took a long time to recover. His wife and his service dog, Dozer, have been instrumental in his life. Dozer has been with Sean since he was six weeks old, having worked with Rescue for PTSD. White has been sober for six years now, and with Dozer and his wife, life is again worth living. Good Luck Sean, and Congratulations on being MCNs ‘Veteran of the Week’.
