This week’s Veteran is Tony Martin, who served in the U.S. Air Force from 1985 – 1992. Martin trained at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. Tony was a Flight Data Specialist, and was responsible for the administrative and data management tasks that support military aircraft and flight operations, such as keeping track of flight records, managing aeronautical data, maintenance records ensuring they were up-to-date. Martin supported Operation Desert Storm by training the pilots for the delivery of ordinance on-target. Tony was stationed in Barksdale Air Force Base, as well as bases in the Pacific and Alaska. On a range one-time, a bomb went off target and exploded, knocking him unconscious from the soundwaves and pressures. Another time in a helicopter in which he was traveling, the temperature was 24 degrees below zero, and went down dropping 100 feet to the ground. Tony admits it was scary crashing in a helicopter. Martin eventually joined Harris County Sheriff’s Department where he served for 32 years as a Deputy Sheriff. He retired earlier this year from the HCSD and applied with the Montgomery ISD Police, where he is the School Resource Officer, or SRO, for Montgomery Junior High School.
