At its April 21 regular board meeting, Montgomery ISD trustees approved $3.6 million for employee raises and stipends as part of the district’s 2026-27 compensation plan for the upcoming fiscal year.
$2.4 million is to address higher pay for teachers, and $1.2 million is to fund a one-time employee recognition stipend.
The framework
According to an April 21 news release from the district, the new compensation plan includes a $2,100 salary increase for teachers and employees on the teacher hiring schedule. Employees will also receive a 3% salary increase at the beginning of the new fiscal year, which will be calculated from the midpoint of each employee’s pay grade.
Along with the pay raise, every full-time district employee will receive a one-time $1,000 recognition stipend on the May 20 payroll, according to the news release.
MISD officials said this stipend would not be possible without budgeting and the 2024 voter-approval tax rate election that passed, which helped raise $5.5 million in district funding, according to previous reporting.
Quote of note
MISD Superintendent Mark Ruffin said the new compensation plan addresses the “above-and-beyond effort” district employees go for their students.
“We are excited to make this investment as a way to show our appreciation and to continue supporting and retaining the outstanding people who serve our district,” Ruffin said.
