1. Vegetarian restaurant Simply South to open in Katy
A new location of Indian restaurant Simply South is coming to Katy in July, owner Sree Gummadi confirmed.
The restaurant features vegetarian dishes from throughout India, including a range of soups, curries, biryani, as well as desserts and chai, according to its website. Breakfast options are also available.

2. EVO Entertainment is coming to Fulshear next year
EVO Entertainment has acquired the former Xscape Theatre property in Fulshear with plans to redevelop the site into a nearly 70,000-square-foot “entertainment destination,” officials announced in a June 11 news release.
The project will add approximately 35,000 square feet with new features including bowling lanes, arcade games and several attractions such as laser tag and climbing walls. The existing cinema will also undergo renovations including the addition of two premium format screens.

3. New and upcoming stores in The Woodlands Mall
Several new stores have opened at The Woodlands Mall at 1201 Lake Woodlands Drive this spring and several more are planning to open or see renovations this year, according to mall management.
The mall also launched its summer family movie series, Movies on the Lawn, on June 4. Free movies are shown on select Thursdays, including June 18, July 9, July 23 and Aug. 6 at 7 p.m.

4. Doctors on inaugural year of Houston Methodist Willowbrook’s new OB-GYN residency
Most doctors agree no day at the hospital is guaranteed to look the same. For medical residents, or recently graduated doctors training in a speciality, unpredictability can bring the best learning opportunities.
July 1 marks the one-year anniversary of Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital’s OB-GYN residency, the hospital’s first and only graduate medical education residency. Houston Methodist Willowbrook launched the four-year program in part to expand access to OB-GYN care in northwest Houston, Program Director Dr. Sarah Hoopes said.

5. Katy ISD will use two stadiums for future graduations
Katy ISD is moving forward with adjustments to its high school graduation schedule for 2027.
After holding one ceremony per evening at Legacy Stadium over the last seven years, Katy ISD officials announced the district will now use both Rhodes Stadium and Legacy Stadium for high school graduation ceremonies beginning in 2027, according to a letter sent to parents.
