On Saturday, January 3, 2026, the Thomas Jefferson Stubbs 2523 Conroe Chapter members met for their monthly meeting. Those attending were…Beckie Endebrock, Jackie Barkmann, Schelle Taylor, Sherry McKey, Iva Gilliam, Eva Rains, Bette Garland, Naschelle Taylor, Nelda Shippey-McGuire, Michele Scanlin, Carolyn Jamail and a visiting guest, Cheryl Eubanks.
One highlight of a chapter meeting, is to install a new member. Not able to be with us on the 3rd of January, 2026 was…Janet Fowler Crook, who resides in Alabama. She is a sister to chapter members Jackie Fowler Barkmann and aunt to Christina Barkmann.
Her great great grandfather and a War Between the States soldier was…Pvt. David Thomas Drummond, who mustered in with Co. B 36th Alabama Regiment Infantry CSA. He was born in South Carolina 28th October 1831 and died 2nd July 1898 in Greene County, Alabama. He married Mary Frances Mayes on 30th December 1857 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
After the war, he returned to Greene County and worked his land as a farmer. He and Mary had 13 children between the years of 1860 to 1886. David Drummond is buried in the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery in Greene County, Alabama.
Jackie Fowler Barkmann, talked about having family reunions out on the family farm in Greene County and has fond memories of the older men all gathered around talking about their “old” family members, who have passed away, they were good stories, she said.
