Four Republican candidates are running for Texas lieutenant governor—the second-in-command to the governor—in the upcoming March 3 primary election.
Republican incumbent Dan Patrick is seeking a fourth term in the lieutenant governor’s office. The lieutenant governor leads the Texas Senate and can exercise the powers of the governor if the governor dies, resigns, is removed from office or is absent from the state, according to the Texas State Historical Association.
Patrick is challenged by three Republican candidates: Timothy Mabry, Perla Muñoz Hopkins and Esala Wueschner. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the votes in the Republican primary, a runoff election will be held between the two top vote-getters May 26.
The winning Republican candidate will face the winner of the Democratic nomination in November. The winner of that election will be sworn in for a four-year term in January 2027.

A spokesperson for Patrick’s campaign shared the following statement with Community Impact. After several attempts, Community Impact was unable to reach Patrick’s campaign to further discuss the questionnaire.
As Patrick and his team did not return a completed questionnaire, Community Impact is publishing the statement to reflect his perspective for voters: “Texans know where Lt. Gov. Patrick stands on the issues that matter to the people of Texas, including those you raise in your questionnaire. The most current information about his positions is available on his campaign website, www.danpatrick.org, as well as his official website, www.ltgov.state.tx.us.”
Early voting begins Feb. 17 for March primary races across Texas, including 18 statewide races and various local races. Registered voters may cast ballots in either Texas’ Republican or Democratic primary, but not both. Third-party candidates will appear on the ballot in November.
Community Impact gave all candidates running for contested statewide offices more than three weeks to complete the primary election questionnaire and communicated with their campaigns periodically. Community Impact‘s goal with election Q&As is to provide a side-by-side, equitable resource for Texas voters to review candidates’ perspectives as they prepare to head to the polls.
To ensure that candidates are the ones defining their positions in Community Impact‘s voter guide, if candidates did not complete the questionnaire after multiple attempts to contact them, the website reads “candidate did not respond to questionnaire before press time.” Candidates were informed of this policy.
Candidates were asked to keep responses under 50 words, answer the questions provided and avoid attacking opponents. Answers may have been minimally edited or cut to adhere to those guidelines, or for style and clarity.
What would your top priorities be if elected?
Abolish residential property taxes, restore fiscal discipline, secure the border, defend Texas sovereignty, and end corruption. Texas families deserve affordability, safety, and leadership that puts people over politics and Texas first—always.
What will your priorities be regarding property taxes and housing affordability?
Abolish residential property taxes and control government spending. Texans don’t have a revenue problem, rather we have a spending problem. Reducing taxes, auditing budgets, and stopping inflationary policies will restore housing affordability.
What will your priorities be for the future of Texas education?
Strengthen public education through accountability, classroom-focused funding, and workforce readiness. Emphasize skill mastery, career and technical education, and local control, without diverting funds through vouchers.
What projects are most important for the Legislature to focus on for the future of Texas?
Water infrastructure, reliable energy generation, border security, and workforce development. Texas must invest in essentials that sustain growth while protecting agriculture, industry, and local communities.
What do you see as the greatest challenge for Texas in the next five years?
Outside influence and corruption pushing Texas away from its values. Texans don’t want California policies or federal control. Preserving Texas identity, independence, and affordability is the defining challenge ahead.
What would your top priorities be if elected?
We must return to a safe, affordable, and thriving Texas, because every child deserves the American Dream. Top priorities: eliminate property taxes, reform TX education, and protect TX from all domestic and foreign terrorist threats. Taxes are at an all-time high, all while Texas ranks #40 in education in America.

Return $24-27 billion surplus to taxpayers, legislation for elected CAD boards (currently controlled by the state, see HB1952—89th), audits and collaborate with the comptroller and tax assessors, appraisals every 5 years vs. 1 with a low capped percentage. Conservatives believe in term limits and election integrity. We must vote out elected representatives that have stagnated TX growth, ushered-in crime and corruption, and make it unaffordable to live in Texas. Direct funding away from any and all projects that benefit foreign nations. Push for legislation that will hold many of the current and previous politicians to be investigated publicly to hold them accountable for treason activities they have conducted that are punishable by death or life in prison.

I will make it a priority to hire experienced qualified teachers that are followers of God (Hellenistic Christology, Native Americans, etc), so our students will be able to grow spiritually, so they will be molded to be love and peaceful as the fundamental intentions of all faiths.
