On March 3, voters in the primary election will decide who will be the Republican candidate in the race for U.S. House District 8 in November. Six candidates are running, and Republican incumbent Morgan Luttrell is not seeking reelection.

Why are you running for office?
There are too many lawyers and DC insiders in Congress enriching themselves at our expense or building resumes for lobbying and TV riches. I’m a conservative businessman and real-world outsider who wants to serve, fix our nation’s problems, and put America first.
What would your top priorities be if elected?
Supporting President Trump’s agenda: secure our borders, deport illegal immigrants, reduce government in our lives, lower taxes, ensure election integrity, boost domestic energy production, and strongly support law enforcement.
What are the biggest challenges facing District 8?
The devastating effects of illegal immigration include narco-terrorism, human trafficking, and rising crime. We must lower taxes, shrink government, reduce its interference in our lives and businesses, and restore the freedoms that made America great!
How will you ensure your district is prepared for extreme weather and flooding?
When extreme events strike, my top priority is connecting frontline first responders directly to federal resources and decision-makers. I’ll cut through red tape and confusion, ensuring their urgent needs are quickly and clearly relayed to the right leaders—because in emergencies, every second counts.
If elected, what will your priorities be regarding property taxes and housing affordability?
We must pass strong, permanent legislation to follow up President Trump’s Executive Order, limiting funds and institutions from buying up large numbers of homes. This will protect homeownership and ensure affordable housing for future generations, while eliminating burdensome regulations on modern home materials and fixtures.
Why are you running for office?
I’m running to fix what’s broken: overhaul VA healthcare by giving veterans and spouses TRICARE for Life with access to private providers, invest in underground flood control moving stormwater to Galveston Bay and the Houston Ship Channel, and fund neighborhood patrols to improve response times and public safety.

What are the biggest challenges facing District 8?
Law enforcement response times, veteran support (medical & mental), flood control, and overhaul of the homeowners insurance industry.
How will you ensure your district is prepared for extreme weather and flooding?
First, we must build the tunnels to resolve this issue. I will not leave Congress until they are fully funded, constructed and operational. I will build strong relationships and open lines of communication with all federal agencies to ensure proactive coordination, resources, and support for our local and state partners.
If elected, what will your priorities be regarding property taxes and housing affordability?
I will limit property-tax growth by protecting homeowners from being taxed out of their homes. Federal grants to local MUDs and PIDs will fund water and wastewater infrastructure, reducing tax hikes. Repealing the McCarran-Ferguson Act will rein in excessive homeowners-insurance costs.

What are the biggest challenges facing District 8?
A federal government that is out of touch with the people it serves. Reckless spending has driven up costs, overregulation is hurting energy and job growth, and Washington gridlock prevents real solutions. I know how to push back and deliver results. I’ve done it before and will continue the fight.

I will focus on local control and preparedness by ensuring cities and counties in our district have the resources they need before disaster strikes. That means cutting federal red tape, improving coordination, and making sure relief and mitigation efforts move quickly and effectively.

I want the opportunity to serve and help secure a better future for our children and grandchildren by advocating for a responsible plan to balance the budget. I will make it a top priority to listen to the constituents of District 8 and pursue policies that improve their lives.

What are the biggest challenges facing District 8?
Like much of the country, the rising cost of living is a major challenge. Families are still feeling the effects of inflation caused by years of poor monetary policy. One of my top priorities would be preventing inflation from becoming an even greater burden on our children and grandchildren

I would review existing proposals to improve preparedness for extreme weather and strengthen flood control, and I would work to implement any plan that is credible and cost-effective. If no such plans exist, I would advocate for conducting a thorough study to identify solutions that appropriately balance benefits and costs.

I oppose unfair or excessive increases in property taxes, while recognizing that essential local services depend on tax revenue and that budgets must be balanced responsibly. Government should be accountable and efficient with taxpayer dollars. I believe that housing prices generally follow market forces and will correct themselves over time.
