The R.F. Meador Branch Library in Willis is getting a new look, with renovations underway to refresh the library’s interior and make the space more useful for visitors of all ages, according to a Montgomery County Memorial Library System news release.

The project is being funded through nearly $150,000 from several sources, including grants from the Tocker Foundation and Still Water Foundation, as well as support from Montgomery County Precinct 1 Commissioner Robert Walker and the Montgomery County Community Foundation, according to the release.
The library will see new seating areas, updated furniture, changes to shelving and redesigned spaces for children, teens and adults, library officials said. Plans also include more open areas for studying, reading, working and gathering.
Diving in deeper
According to the release, the children’s area will receive new seating and interactive features, while the teen area will include a more social setup for group projects and studying. Adults will also have access to new study tables, chairs and quiet seating areas.
A new centralized circulation desk is also planned to make it easier for staff to help visitors with checkouts, account questions and research needs in one place, library officials said. The children’s desk will also be modernized.

The project will also expand a flexible room that could eventually be used as a maker space through the library system’s Innovate@MCMLS initiative, according to the release.
Library officials said the work is expected to be completed in fall 2026. The library will remain open during renovations, though some areas may be temporarily unavailable.
“We are so excited to be able to redesign our library to serve our community better,” Library Manager Michelle Kovacs said in the release.
The library also has future plans for an outdoor learning space, though the current construction is focused on the building’s interior, according to the release.
