The five Rotary Clubs in Montgomery County honored Veterans and their families the last two weeks. The Rotary Clubs located in The Woodlands, Conroe, Lake Conroe, Magnolia and East Montgomery County showed their gratitude to those who served and lived to tell of their stories.
Those stories continue to provide challenges to those Veterans with issues of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) still in their lives as they try to live in a world of peace with images of war scenes etched in their minds. Some Veterans continue to live their lives with trauma, but need our help to assure them all is well. Those on the ground fighting seems to be the ones with the most trauma and PTSD. Those in the air seemed to not be impacted as much. One Fellow Rotarian by the name of Rob Eissler was such a fighter pilot. However, he has some close calls trying to land on an aircraft carrier in rough seas with the carrier bobbing up and down by tens of feet, making landing on a horizontally moving carrier while it rose and fell dramatically. He came off well from his military experiences and entered civilian life with his wife Linda.
He proudly boasts he gave up his military life of flying “Top Gun Jets” for the love of his life, Linda. They have two sons and a daughter with Craig on The Woodlands Township Board, their daughter married to a School Superintendent, and son Mark as a successful businessman. However, W. Robert Eissler was destined for much more. He was a Chamber Board Chair and a business community leader. He was on the Conroe ISD Board of Trustees for 18 years with two of those years as its President. He is a Champion of education. After retiring from the School Board, he was elected for five-two-year terms to the Texas State House of Representatives with those years serving on the House Public Education Committee. For two terms, he was Chair House Public Education Committee. This Family man know how important education is, getting his College Degree from Princeton University. He has always been an Advocate for Education as all Rotarians are. However, Rob Eissler is the Perfect Model for a Rotarian. He has served his Community while also focusing on the education of our Youth, both at home, in our community, and on the State Level.
Last Thursday, Conroe ISD dedicated its Super-Size Elementary School in his honor. The attending large crowd was impressed with the school with its prestigious halls decorated with the Eissler Eagle symbol. Its 950-student size is larger than the populations of the total school district student population of more than half of the Texas School Districts. Rob Eissler told the admiring crowd that he was inspired by his wife Linda to excel. Rob told the young students at that school to excel in what they did in gaining knowledge at this school. It is fitting to have the largest Elementary School in CISD, if not the entire State, named after a Rotarian who spent his life in aspiring others to excel while working to improve our education system. May the W. Robert Eissler Elementary School be a blessing and inspiration for generations to come!
