School has started so lots of school activities are starting. The bands, football teams and cheer squads are practicing for the “Friday Night Lights.”
Please join Rotarians in supporting our youth by attending the football games and volleyball games. School libraries and public libraries will also be buzzing. We look forward to the new Library opening at the Kevin Brady Community Center Complex on September 2, 2025.
Rotarians are learning what is happening in the School Districts. The Rotary Club of East Montgomery County will be hearing at separate meeting from the Superintendents from Porter ISD and New Caney ISD on the status of their school districts. This Rotary Club is also providing emergency clothing changes for the young kids in early school and lower grades at Elementary Schools in East Montgomery County.
The Rotary Club of The Woodlands is energizing the Interact Clubs it sponsors at College Park High School, The Woodlands High School, Grand Oaks high School, Oak Ridge North High School, the John Cooper School, and The Woodlands Christian Academy. I believe this Rotary Club sponsoring these six High School Interact Club has the largest number of high school students in the world that is sponsored by one Rotary Club.
Rotarian Bill Friebel has been a very active Rotarian with his involvement in several of these Interact Clubs. Interact Clubs are Rotary Clubs on a High School basis with a school sponsor to ensure compliance with school requirements and at least one Rotarians involved to instill Rotary values.
The Rotary Club of Lake Conroe sponsors Interact Clubs at Lake Creek High School, Montgomery High School, and Willis High School.
The Rotary Club of Conroe is sponsoring the Interact Club at Washington High School and is resurrecting the Interact Club at Conroe High School after the pandemic. Most Rotary Clubs pay the school sponsors a stipend to help compensate them for their time in the overburdened schedules. The Rotary Club of Magnolia will be hosting the Magnolia ISD Football coaches for their pigskin preview this Tuesday.
The five Rotary Clubs in Montgomery County are now interviewing applicants for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards which is held in January at a three-day weekend events for Junior students in High Schools.
If you have a high school student, encourage them to get active in Interact Clubs in their high schools. Those members of the Interact Clubs have a higher chance of getting Rotary Scholarships when they graduate. The same goes for those High School Juniors attending RYLA. Those Juniors come back from RYLA ready to lead the world!
Rotarians also work with individual schools mentoring students. The Rotary Club of The Woodlands mentors students attending several schools. The successful program has been chaired by Rotarian Natalie Goertz for several yeas. She and her husband, Roger, along with many other Rotarians mentor any at-risk students each year, making a positive impact in the lives of our youth.
