The Rotary Club of Conroe hosted State Rep. Will Metcalf, R-Conroe, at the last noon meeting at Honor Café in historic downtown Conroe.
Will was one of the busiest State Representatives with 81 Legislative Bills he authored and a myriad other Legislative Bills he co-authored. This make him one of the most active State Legislators with those Bills being enacted making him the second most prolific writer of passed Legislative Bills in this legislative session.
This 6th generation Montgomery County resident is a proud, caring Texan and a father of two daughters. State Representative Metcalf spent over 40 minutes outlining the myriad of Bills he was involved in enacting in the regular and special sessions. During his presentation, he encouraged Texans to support the various State Constitutional Amendments on the Ballot this November. Several Constitutional Amendments include significant increases in property tax exemptions. After his presentation, he fielded numerous questions The overall consensus of Rotarians is Montgomery County has an outstanding Representative in the State House in Austin!
Last Thursday was Patriot’s Day. The Rotary Club of The Woodlands focused on this day’s remembrances of the 2,977 killed during that terrorist attacks and the subsequent losses of those first responders to this tragic attack on the Twin Towers in New York City. The Woodlands Fire Chief Palmer Buck provided a wonderful tribute to those first responders in the NYC tragedy. Chief Palmer Buck brings 37 years of public safety experience, including 26 years with the Austin Fire Department.
Chief Buck holds a BA in Fire Protection Technology, a Master of Public Affairs and is a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program. As a proven leader and mentor, he is active in national fire service organizations and holds numerous certifications. His words to Rotarians focused on courage, leadership and community service.
The Rotary Club of Lake Conroe meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at Amore Restaurant on the shores of Lake Conroe on S. H. 105. President Jan introduced their Guest Speaker and first time visitor, Bobby Chapman, District 5910 Rotary Foundation Chair. His presentation was entitled “Rewards by the Dollar”. The definition of reward: a noun – something that is given in return for a good done or that is offered or given for some service or attainment. Rotary International’s motto is “Service Above Self” with the motto for the Rotary Foundation being “Doing Good in the World.”
He continued by stating that all Rotarians are committed to the five Avenues of Service:
1. Club Service (making clubs strong)
2. Vocational Service (integrity, contribute to #3)
3. Youth Service (Interact, RYLA, Youth Exchange
4. Community Service and
5. International Service.
The mission is “To enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving health, providing quality education, improving the environment, and alleviating poverty. Bobby continued by stating the focus of the Rotary Foundation which includes: peace and conflict prevention/resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, economic and community development and protecting the environment. Bobby concluded his presentation by encouraging Rotarians to support the Rotary Foundation.
