The newest Interact Club in Montgomery County is the re-invigorated Interact Club of Conroe High School.
This Interact Club was going strong, but the pandemic shut down schools. After the pandemic, it was difficult to find a Club sponsor for this organization equating Rotary Club activities to a high school level. Teachers and Counselors were overwhelmed with additional duties. With the help of CHS Principal Dr. Smith, Ms. Liezel Moen was recruited as the Interact Club’s sponsor with the Interact Club getting a good core of high schoolers. They have a program this Fall Semester to raise money for Polio eradication.
This past week, they “invaded” Target in Conroe to purchase Christmas presents for the women and their children in the Montgomery County Women’s Shelter. This year the Shelter has 30 battered women along with their 26 children. This cadre of CHS Interact Club Members during Final week went shopping to purchase Christmas presents. Once purchased, the 56 presents were wrapped with care and love. Last Friday, they delivered the presents along with Santa Claus to the Montgomery County Women’s Shelter in a display of love and soothing peace for these 56 battered lives. This Interact Club meets after School on the third Wednesday of each school month to plan Projects and serve the community with Rotarians. The Rotary Club of Conroe brings 10 pizzas to each meeting to show support and attract other high school students at Conroe High to these monthly meetings.
Last Tuesday, the designated speaker became ill on Tuesday morning so Rotarian Leland Dushkin CPA provided a simplified, but amazing presentation in 25 minutes on the recent tax law changes, specifically those created by the “one big, beautiful Bill.” If properly managed with maximum annual contributions of $5,000 annually, that account could grow into over a million tax-free dollars when that child reaches 28! Leland explained everything simply enough for even me to understand!
The Rotary Club of The Woodlands held their Christmas Party this past week at the Kevin Brady Center in The Woodlands and featured the recently opened community center’s facilities. Last Friday, the Rotary Club of Conroe celebrated the Christmas Season with a “Come and Go” occasion at the beautiful home of Michael and Natalie Hayes!
Deitra Johnson of Splendora ISD reported to me, “On Tuesday, December 16, members of the Rotary Club of East Montgomery County enjoyed a delightful gathering filled with great food, fellowship, and festive fun. The event included some friendly Christmas trivia that had everyone smiling. Here’s a fun question from the day: Do you know what Frosty the Snowman’s nose was made out of? A wonderful time was had by all as we celebrated connection, camaraderie, and holiday cheer!
