Today is Texas Independence Day. It was 190 years ago today that Texas declared itself free from the dictator Santa Ana and was the seventh revolt against that tyrant.
The Rotary Club of Conroe will meet with Charles B. Stewart on Tuesday, March 3, to hear first-hand from Mr. Stewart about life in 1836. Mr. Stewart is credited with creating our Texas Flag with red on the bottom stripe signifying the bloodshed on the battlefields of the Alamo, Goliad, the Runaway Scrape, and finally San Jacinto. All are invited to attend to hear the words of Charles Stewart, portrayed by Jack Shepherd.
The Rotary Club of Lake Conroe is hosting a full month of fun with its “Wine and Beer Tour.” A coupon book is sold for $50 per adult to raise funds for the numerous “good works” provided by “the little Club that can and does..” A list of participating wineries and breweries is provided below:

Ambassador Mike Berger from the Rotary Club of Conroe encourages you to gather a group of friends and hire a driver to provide safe access while visiting these breweries and wineries. This is a fun opportunity to make lots of memories while helping to raise money for the charitable activities of the Rotary Club of Lake Conroe. While visiting these local wineries and breweries, enhance your trip by purchasing additional tastings along with beers and bottles of boutique wines that you would not find in the stores.
Check out the local music events and festival held at these ten fun businesses. The weather should be outstanding so make time with your friends to visit. Please know that you will also be contributing to the charitable activities of RCLC, having provided over $420,000 to local and international efforts to make our world a better place to live.
Only three more months until school is out. Seniors in high schools are making their plans for the future. Scholarships from the five Rotary Clubs in Montgomery County will be doled out to deserving graduating Seniors who want to go to Colleges, Universities, and Trade Schools. Applications for these scholarships will be available soon via their high school counselors. These scholarships are provided to deserving High School Seniors based on grades, goals, community service, and needs. Just because you didn’t make straight A’s doesn’t mean you don’t qualify for a $1,000 scholarship. You won’t be eligible for a scholarship if you do not submit for a scholarship!
