Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Magnolia heard from Superintendent Jasson Bullock from the Magnolia ISD on the state of the public education system and the upcoming May Bond Issue for MISD.
Rotarians are very interested in furthering education. It is a proven fact that educated people earn significantly more than uneducated people. To improve the world, you must educate the world. Books are such an important learning tool.
Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Conroe sponsor “I Like Me” Books which are distributed to all first graders in the Conroe High School feeder system. Second Grade Teachers know that First Graders will need to re-learn a lot unless they have books over the Summer to read over and over again. Rotarian Steve Muir assemblies each year almost two thousand questionnaires from parents to provide a special book titled “I Like Me” which is all about each of the various individual first graders. These special books will be distributed by Rotarians and the book sponsors to first graders during the last several weeks of the school year. Those first graders will return as second graders on a much better level vs. those students who are not motivated to read and do not read at all during the summer.
Graduating Seniors are also turning in applications for Rotary Scholarships at the various high schools throughout Montgomery County. They have learned that education is necessary to achieve excellence whether in the university setting or trade school.
In order to educate, Rotarians raise hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to assist in these endeavors to further education of our youth. Maybe, it should be called a FUN-raiser since these events are oriented at having fun while the events are low priced! The Rotary Club of Lake Conroe is hosting a full month of fun with its “Wine and Beer Tour” during the month of March. A coupon book is sold for $50 per adult to raise funds for the numerous “good works” provided by “the little Club that can and does..”

The Rotary Club of Conroe is continuing its tradition of their Annual Pancake Supper. Rotarians are selling tickets for Adults at $25 and $10 for youth 12 and under for the Pancake Supper to be held on Thursday, April 23rd. The event will be held at Honor Café which is a restaurant within a military museum in historic downtown Conroe. This family-oriented event raises funds that the Rotary Club of Conroe uses to support its youth programs, including its scholarship programs at two local high schools. This fun event is not your typical fund raiser and should include face painting for the kids and optional for adults. Celebrity waiters will add to the festive fun. I enjoy the competitiveness of those silent auctions where you can find that something you always wanted. That Thursday evening pancake supper is the perfect agenda for your school age kids to have fun with Mom and Dad while getting a unique evening meal to support the youth of our community. Besides, no one has to clean up the kitchen after the meal! It is a WIN – WIN situation!
