The Rotary Club of Conroe will host its SPIRIT OF TEXAS event at The Table on Madeley on Thursday, October 23rd.
This fundraising event features Texas Wines and Texas Beers during Texas Wine Month, near the spooky celebration of Halloween. The event’s name is a play on words features spirits found in Texas wines and beers near the fun holiday of ghosts and goblins. Tickets are $50 per adult and feature an outstanding variety of Texas wines and Texas beers. A big “thank you” to Frank Jackson at The Table at Madeley for his hospitality.
There will be live music during this events which begins at 5:30 pm and runs to 8:30. Tickets are available online at www.localwineevents.com (Houston area) and through Rotarians. A variety of live and silent auction items will be available including a week stay for eight in a French Chalet.
Funds raised from this event will be used to support the youth of our community. These youth-support activities include:
• Furnishing “I Like Me” customized books to first graders in schools which feed to Conroe High School. These books are all about that first grader, including his/her name, friend’s names, pets, favorite activities, and more.
• Youth Leadership Camp in early January for Juniors of local High Schools and Home Schools.
• Interact Clubs in High Schools which is the equivalent of Rotary Club activities on a high school basis.
• Scholarships for graduating Seniors in High Schools to attend colleges and trade schools.
Members of the Rotary Club of Lake Conroe recently hosted their Eighth Annual ‘Clothing for Kids’ service project. This Rotary Club works directly with Old Navy in Conroe to purchase clothing along with Conroe’s Department of Family and Protective Services, to help identify needy children in the Montgomery/Lake Conroe area. The Rotary Club of Lake Conroe provided new clothing this year for 143 children who would not have had new clothes for school and everyday use. This vibrant Rotary Club raises money to serve those less fortunate. Please consider to donate funds to help this Service Organization to continue its service to our Community.
Keeping with the theme of helping children, the Rotary Club of Lake Conroe also has scheduled its annual Christmas Candy Roll service project starting at 11:30 a.m. on November 4. This group will gather at the Montgomery United Methodist Church to wrap candy rolls for orphaned children in Mexico to bring happiness and appreciation during the Christmas Season. The volunteers take empty toilet paper rolls, then stuff them with hard candies, and wrap them with lively Christmas wrapping paper.
On an international basis, Rotarians throughout the world are working together to eradicate Polio. We have had 33 new cases of Polio so far this year which is limited to the rural areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Parts of rural Afghanistan were devastated by a massive earthquake so the focus was on rescue in that area. This past year, Rotarians have given out almost four billion doses of Polio sera. We know that we will need to continue the program for three full years once there are no more cases of Polio. That means an additional 12 billion more doses of Polio sera are needed. Together we can eradicate Polio.
